As the united voice of Ohio’s hospitals, the Ohio Hospital Association leverages data and expertise to be the leader in influencing health policy, driving quality improvement initiatives and advocating for economic sustainability to serve our diverse membership. Our mission is to collaborate with member hospitals and health systems to ensure a healthy Ohio.

OHA gathers and analyzes data for patient encounters at Ohio hospitals and tracks the ownership types and classifications of member hospitals.
OHA publishes a statewide Community Benefit report summarizing the contributions our nonprofit members deliver in the communities they serve.
OHA works closely with regional and national hospital associations on behalf of our member hospitals.
OHA is governed by a board of trustees that includes representatives from small and large hospitals, teaching facilities and health care systems.
The OHA Institute for Health Innovation is governed by its own board of directors.
OHA welcomes companies across the spectrum of industries operating in health care delivery to explore becoming a corporate partner to engage with member hospitals. Corporate partners have the opportunity to distinguish their organizations with OHA member hospitals and align common needs for the most successful health service delivery.

OHA Committees
Member-led policy committees advise the OHA Board of Trustees on issues vital to the hospital community. The OHA board also appoints work groups composed of member hospital representatives to study emerging issues in health care delivery.
Admitting, Billing & Collection Committee
Purpose: To act as the representative body for hospital admitting and patient financial services functions to the OHA Board of Trustees, OHA staff and all OHA committees and task forces.
Behavioral Health Committee
Purpose: To advise the OHA Board of Trustees on policy matters relating to the provision of behavioral health services at Ohio hospitals and health systems, including but not limited to financing, access to treatment, continuum of care, payer policies and local behavioral health systems.
Clinical Advisory Committee
Purpose: To develop a strategic patient safety and quality agenda for OHA, recommending priority initiatives to the OHA Board of Trustees.
Environmental Leadership Council
Purpose: To provide guidance and leadership for Ohio’s hospitals and health systems toward environmental stewardship; sustainability; reduction of greenhouse gas emissions; environmental, social, and governance principles; and environmental justice, equity and improving health outcomes and wellness.
Finance Committee
Purpose: To assist and advise OHA on association policy on the financing and cost of hospital care and to assess the financial environment. The committee concentrates on the issues associated with Medicare, Medicaid and workers' compensation payment and other public health financing programs.
Physician Leadership Advisory Council
Purpose: To recommend statewide initiatives to increase physician engagement to improve patient care.
Small & Rural Hospital Committee
Purpose: To communicate items of interest with the small and rural hospitals in Ohio. The committee will recommend policy positions to OHA on small and rural issues, provide ideas for and support educational opportunities for small and rural hospitals, and to provide input to the OHA Board on proposed state and federal laws and regulations as they pertain to small and rural hospitals.
Ohio Hospitals’ United Voice Since 1915
Ohio’s hospital community dates back to 1823. OHA, the country’s first state-level hospital association, was founded by a group of 60 hospital leaders at the Hotel Breakers on Aug. 25, 1915.

Hand Hygiene
OHA’s hand hygiene program focuses on improving rates by assessing hospital staff compliance and providing immediate recommendations on how hospitals can improve by redesigning policies and offering more robust education and training opportunities. Over 315,000 observations were completed by the hand hygiene observers in 2023.

Data Services
OHA's data services team has been providing member hospitals information and analytical tools to support their decision-making needs for four decades. OHA collects data from member and non-member hospitals in Ohio and contiguous states covering inpatient, outpatient, emergency department and skilled nursing facility care.
